Saracco-\u00c1lvarez<br>Direcci\u00f3n de Investigaci\u00f3n en Neurociencias.<br>Instituto Nacional de Psiquiatr\u00eda Ram\u00f3n de la Fuente Mu\u00f1iz<br>Miembro Numerario de la Academia Nacional de Medicina<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los estudios en Cognici\u00f3n Social (CS) surgen de la psicolog\u00eda cognoscitiva en la llamada \u201cRevoluci\u00f3n Cognoscitiva\u201d del siglo pasado. Sus primeras definiciones hacen referencia a las representaciones cognitivas de los objetos sociales como esquemas. Destaca que dicha cualidad (social) est\u00e1 presente en gran parte de los mam\u00edferos, en especial en los humanos y se asocia con el funcionamiento de la persona, por eso en patolog\u00edas donde este funcionamiento est\u00e1 limitado, como en la esquizofrenia o el autismo, es muy relevante estudiarlas y tratarlas, ya que es una variable mediadora de la neurocognici\u00f3n y la metacognici\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En 1978, Premack y Woodruff definieron la CS como la habilidad para hacer inferencias de otras personas (intenciones, creencias, disposiciones, etc\u00e9tera) utilizadas para explicar y predecir sus comportamientos. Otras definiciones que abundan son: la forma en que la gente procesa la informaci\u00f3n social, en particular su codificaci\u00f3n, almacenamiento, recuperaci\u00f3n y aplicaci\u00f3n en situaciones sociales, o bien, la forma de pensar de las personas acerca de s\u00ed mismas y de otros en el mundo social. Esta perspectiva te\u00f3rica se enfoca en la forma en c\u00f3mo los individuos procesamos (todos los humanos, primates y algunos mam\u00edferos) la informaci\u00f3n en contextos sociales, la manera en que se genera el procesamiento de la informaci\u00f3n que procede de la generalizaci\u00f3n y del mantenimiento de relaciones entre varios individuos, es decir, un denominado medio social tiene por lo tanto una funci\u00f3n adaptativa.
